Description textThe current BLNRC building is more than 75 years old and is reaching the end of its useful life as a nursing home.
In 2018, EAPC Architects and Engineers completed a facility assessment and determined that it would cost more to renovate, expand, and bring the building up to modern standards than to build a new facility.
A new building will better serve residents, families, and staff for generations to come.
-
The cost of the project reflects modern nursing home requirements, resident safety standards, ADA accessibility, inflation in construction costs, and the need to replace a facility that is more than 75 years old.
The new facility will provide features that the current building cannot easily accommodate, including:
Private resident bathrooms
Ceiling lifts in resident rooms
Modern rehabilitation and therapy spaces
Community gathering areas
Improved accessibility throughout the building
A one-level design that is safer and easier for residents to navigate
The new facility is being designed to meet the needs of residents, families, and staff for decades to come. This investment will help ensure that quality nursing home care remains available in northwest North Dakota for future generations.
-
The new facility will be built on a 14-acre site on 16th Avenue West in Williston, North Dakota.
The building will be approximately 100,000 square feet and all on one level for easier access and movement.
-
The new facility will continue to provide:
Skilled nursing care
Short-term rehabilitation services
Basic care services
The services offered will remain the same as those currently provided by BLNRC.
-
The new building is being designed with residents' comfort and safety in mind.
Features will include:
Ceiling lifts in resident rooms
Larger resident rooms
Private bathrooms
Improved accessibility
Modern therapy and rehabilitation spaces
Chapel
Community gathering areas
Salon
Dental office
Ice cream parlor
Activity areas
These improvements will help residents receive care in a safer and more comfortable environment.
-
Yes.
More than 90% of current residents have some level of dementia. BLNRC currently serves dementia residents and will continue to do so in the new facility.
Residents with dementia are integrated into the general resident population. The entire campus is secured for resident safety.
Admission decisions are made on a case-by-case basis to ensure BLNRC can safely meet each person's needs.
If a person requires a higher level of specialized dementia care, a dedicated memory care facility may be a more appropriate option.
-
BLNRC is not relying solely on donations to build the new facility.
The Bethel Lutheran Foundation has committed $5 million toward construction and donated the 14-acre property valued at $2.4 million. BLNRC has committed approximately $7 million of its own resources and is working to secure approximately $33.6 million through bonding.
Together, these commitments total approximately $48 million toward the project.
The capital campaign is raising the remaining $28 million needed to complete the project and ensure that northwest North Dakota continues to have access to local nursing home care for future generations.
-
The capital campaign goal is $28 million.
As of July 2026, approximately $5.2 million has been raised, leaving approximately $22.8 million still needed to complete the campaign.
-
Once the new facility is completed, BLNRC plans to move residents and staff into the new building.
The current property will then be sold.
